So… why do I make so many darn cards???

I spent 43 years of my life having no idea a paper crafting world awaited me. I enjoyed doodling, but only in my journals — which I keep VERY private and under lock and key. But one day a friend of mine brought her handmade cards to church and shared a bit of crafty time with us there and I couldn’t get over all the details and die cuts and shiny bits! I was hooked!

Some of you know that I pastor a church, full time, that I planted with some friends here in Providence, Rhode Island. Paper crafting gives me something to do with my hands as I pray, listen to theology courses, and Bible teaching, and meditate on God’s words.

I have fallen for the thrill of putting ink to paper, melting embossing powder and sharing all these creations with friends on Instagram, Facebook and YouTube.

What kind of cards do I love making!?

My favorite style of cards to make is Clean and Simple (CAS). White space makes me happy. I love the clean look and how all the white space takes your eyes to a pop of color or flourish or a fun critter. I always reach for Copic markers to color. I feel like an artist with them in my hands and love beautifully they work together for endless color palette options.

When I need to get my MOJO back…

Currently, I’m in a three week funk. But I have come to expect those from time to time. But when I need to get my MOJO on, I visit some of my favorite paper crafting bloggers: Carisa Wiley, Cathy Zielske, and Jennifer McGuire, Also, I head to Pinterest and look up pins with my favorite stamp companies… Colorado Craft Co, Catherine Pooler, Hero Arts, Ellen Hutson and others. For color palettes, I love to go to coolors.co.

What can I NOT LIVE WITHOUT in my craftroom?

Supplies List for Creating this Card

Supplies List:

  1. Coffee House by Anita Jeram, Colorado Craft Company Stamps

  2. Intensified Black Ink

  3. Copic Markers - E44, E49, W9, E13, & E59 (linked below in grid)

  4. Trimmer

  5. Scor-Buddy

  6. Teflon Bone Folder

  7. Solar White - 25 pk, Neenah Classic Crest Cardstock

  8. MISTI

Steps for Creating Card

  1. To begin, I stamped out my images with alcohol friendly black ink — Intens-ified Black — from Hero Arts..

  2. Then, I colored each image with Copic markers.

  3. Next, I re-stamped the images with Versafine Black Onyx Ink!

  4. To finish off the card, I stamped the sentiment in with Intens-ified Black Ink.

TIP: Since I had no marker between E44 and E49, I just laid out some E49 on my glass mat and picked it up with my E44 and blended the two together. The result is somewhere perfectly in between.

This is an example of my favorite kind of card to make! It is one layer, includes colorable images and leaves a lot of white space. I love bling on cards with die cuts and dimensionals, but when I make a one-layer card, I lke them to stay smooth and flat!

I’d love to hear about your favorite kind of card to make and why you love paper crafting!! Leave me a note in the comments below. If you haven’t subscribed to my e-mail list yet, I have a free resource called Perfect Sequin Placement available here!
