Del and Artie Live Recap -- Coloring the 3C's Big and Bold Lilac with Copic Markers

Hey there Artie!! Last night was Arties’ Night on Del & Artie Live. We did a poll and chose Colorado Craft Company for our stamp set. Several of you mentioned you’d like to see me color the Big & Bold Lilac stamp, so I did! I was wicked worried at first, not having colored it yet. It has so many little petals. The key to coloring in an image this detailed and large is to take it as a whole, but add the colors in pieces.

This image measures 4.75” x 7”. It’s yuge!! (hehehe) In the program last night, I had to trim it in to and glue the extra slice on the other side of the slimline card!

You could make the card wider if you like and lay it down at an angle. I like the look of spaciousness it gives by splitting the image.

COPIC MARKERS:

Copic markers set the standard for all alcohol-based artist markers. You will find great inventory and personalized customer service at Violeta-Ink. That’s where Del buys his Copic supplies.

I Lilac a Lot

You can watch the replay if you want detailed instructions on how I made this card, but I will give you the run down here!

  1. Stamp the Lilac image onto some X-Press It Card with Gina K Amalgam Obsidian ink. Make sure you use a MISTI and your card stock is in the corner, so when you re-stamp it, you don’t get misalignment.

  2. Color in the image with coordinating colors. I used Copic Markers from Violeta-Ink. If you need to see how I did it, you can review the video.

  3. Die cut the image out with its coordinating die. I showed a trick on how to do that in the live.

  4. Next, create stripes down the front of a slimline card base by taping off sections. I blended the new Purple Galaxy Ink over the front with a blending brush.

  5. Spritz the ink a couple times with a Tim Holtz Distress Sprayer and tap it dry with a clean cloth.

  6. Heat the tape a bit with a heat tool and peel it up. Heating the tape keeps it from tearing your card stock.

  7. Pop up the Lilac image on the front with some foam tape and trim off the excess!

  8. Glue down the excess on the right side of the card base with liquid adhesive.

  9. To finish off the project, add some dots of Hero Hues Clear Enamel Dots.
